Galle Fort – A Living UNESCO Heritage City
A 400-year-old UNESCO World Heritage Fort on Sri Lanka's southern coast.
Discover Galle
Galle Fort, built by the Portuguese in 1588 and later fortified by the Dutch, is a remarkable UNESCO World Heritage Site on Sri Lanka's southwestern tip. Its cobblestone streets, colonial architecture, boutique shops, and rampart walks make it one of the most atmospheric places in South Asia. Inside the fort you will find colonial-era villas converted to boutique hotels, art galleries, cafes, and a thriving creative community. Just outside the fort are excellent beaches (Unawatuna, Dalawella) and the stilt fishermen of Weligama.
