Legacy of the Pearl
Pidurangala is a massive rock formation located a few kilometres north of Sigiriya. It has a rich history believed to go back beyond the reign of King Kashyapa. According to historical records, when King Kashyapa built the Sigiriya fortress, he moved the monks who were living there to a new monastery built at Pidurangala. The rock offers a more challenging climb than Sigiriya but rewards visitors with a spectacular, unobstructed view of the Sigiriya Rock Fortress itself. At the base and along the climb, visitors can see ancient cave dwellings and a large reclining Buddha statue.
"Sri Lanka is a land like no other, where every stone tells a thousand-year-old story of kings and legends."
