Ella Rock is a relatively easy but rewarding hike that begins in the heart of Ella town and climbs through tea plantations and forest to a 1,451m summit with panoramic views of the Ella Gap and surrounding highlands.
How to get there: From Ella town, walk past the Ella Flower Garden and continue along the railway tracks. After about 1 km, cross the tracks and take the trail heading uphill through the tea estate. Follow the path through the forest, and you'll reach the summit in about 1.5–2 hours.
Difficulty: Moderate. The path is mostly clear but can be muddy after rain. Wear proper hiking shoes.
Best time: Start at sunrise (5:30am) to avoid the midday heat and clouds. December to April offers the clearest views.
Tip: Hire a local guide (around USD 15–20). The trail is not well-marked, and a guide will help you find the right path.
Alternative: Little Adam's Peak is an easier 45-minute hike with equally beautiful views — great for families.
