How to visit: Rent bicycles to cover the sprawling sacred area, or hire a tuk-tuk for a half-day tour.
Best time: Year-round, but February to April is the driest.
Where to stay: The Forest Rock Garden Resort and Rajarata Hotel are popular mid-range options.
